Covered in snow during winter, you might not associate the alpine villages of Hotham and Dinner Plain with all things cycling, but once the white stuff melts away, jump on two wheels and take in some of the most breathtaking views going around.
7 PEAKS RIDE - HOTHAM
This challenging ride commences in the gateway town of Harrietville. The scenic Great Alpine Road is flanked by tall forests in the early part of the ride. Mount Buffalo and Mt Feathertop are landmarks in the endless vistas that greet you at the top.
7 PEAKS RIDE - DINNER PLAIN
Climb out of Omeo past Cobungra Station on the Great Alpine Road, taking note to grab a breather at the Kosciuszko Lookout 20 kilometres along the way. The climb is steep to start; a 400 metre ascent followed by undulating road and another long steep climb from the Victoria River to the alpine plateau. Climb through the changing landscape of alpine ash, snowgum forest and heathland.
