Nutrition and Hydration

Climbing mountains is energy-sapping work and it’s important to make sure you’ve got enough in the tank to get you to the summit! Ensure you’ve got enough water (and possibly electrolyte fluids) to stay hydrated, and enough food to keep the dreaded hunger flat at bay. If you’re doing a big day in the mountains with several climbs, it might be worth carbohydrate loading (or  “carb loading”). A big, carb-rich dinner the night before your ride will fill your glycogen stores, ensuring you’ve got enough energy to power through a long day in the hills (but don’t forget to take food with you anyway!)
