Prepare yourself for the perfect weekend of riding. This ride, either staring from Beechworth (72km) or Wangaratta (84km), is a popular option for a longer excursion along the Murray to Mountains. Stay overnight in Myrtleford or push your way through 'the wall' and ride on through to Bright in one day, it's all up to you! Dotted along the trail are the sites, sounds and flavours of the High Country along with warm and welcoming accommodation options.
WANGARATTA TO EVERTON STATION (27km)
Heading from the bustling regional centre of Wangaratta, you will cycle your way through iconic Aussie farmland. Windmills, wheat crops blowing in the breeze and curious cows greeting you as you pedal on by. This flat ride will take you to Everton Station, the perfect opportunity for some rest and hydration before your next part of the journey towards Bright.
BEECHWORTH TO EVERTON STATION (16km)
If you're starting your journey from the beautiful historic town of Beechworth, the first leg of your trip is a doozy - as it's all downhill. After you take in a spot of shopping and site seeing, jump on your bike and freewheel down to Everton Station, an easy 16km journey. From here, you'll pedal your way towards Bright via Myrtleford.
EVERTON STATION TO MYRTLEFORD (27km)
Long and straight, following the line of the Great Alpine Road, this section is mostly flat with a little bit of a push at Taylors Gap, which rewards you with some beautiful views. You'll soon be rolling into Myrtleford, which is the ideal place for a lunch break or even a stay overnight.
MYRTLEFORD TO POREPUNKAH (24km)
As you leave Myrtleford, you'll pass the historic tobacco kilns, iconic silhouettes of the Alpine Valleys. Soon you'll hit the pretty as a picture Porepunkah, with the mighty Mount Buffalo to your right. Take a dip in the river or take some time to sample the delicious wares of the local producers.
POREPUNKAH TO BRIGHT (6km)
You're on the final stretch now, with only a gentle 6km before you hit your destination! Waiting for you in Bright is a collection of fabulous shopping, vibrant dining and of course quality accommodation to rest those weary legs.
