Yanyan Jia

I am 35 years old, full time office lady, part time yoga instructor, I have been riding since October 2015, my partner has been riding for years and he got me into it. I have done more than 2000km since October last year.

I ride for fitness, health, wellbeing and for the challenge and to have the chance to explore new places. I enjoy riding with friends of course and am inspired by all of my friends who I have been riding with. It is their encouragement that keeps me peddling. I don’t think I can finish the ride without my lovely friends.

Riding speed is necessary however, it is not that important. I do not want to lose the fun part of riding, hanging out with friends, stopping for a quick photo, etc. I cycle to achieve the goal I set up for myself, I can ride better and better, faster and faster.

The first peak I climbed was Mt Buffalo, two months after I got into riding. So it was definitely a challenge to me! However, I proved myself and impressed my friends with my strong physical fitness level and my never-give-up mindset. Straight after Mt Buffalo, I climbed Mt Beauty and Falls Creek.

During the last 7 months, I have been to Bright three times, and have done all 7 peaks now, and have even climbed the back of Falls Creek. I love hills so much, why, because once you’ve climbed all the way to the top, it is a success, and when you look down you will be amazed how much effort you have put in and it is definitely worth celebrating! And how to celebrate? Riding all the way down with full speed!! This is the reward!

The 7 Peaks have been my most enjoyable rides. They are amazing!
